Clear Your Mind and Let Go

May 19th, 2010

"To learn how to think is to learn how to live." Ernest Holmes, Author of Science of Mind "Every moment is a new beginning..." If you want to clean a room thoroughly, you will pick up and examine everything in it. Some things you will look at with love, and you will dust them or polish them to give them new beauty. Some things you will see that they need refinishing or repair, and you will make a note to do that. Some things will never serve you again, and it becomes time to let those things go. Old magazines and newspapers and dirty paper plates can be dropped into the wastebasket very calmly. There is no need to get angry in order to clean a room. It is the same thing when we are cleaning our mental house. There is no need to get angry just because some of the beliefs in it are ready to be tossed out. Let them go as easily as you would scrape bits of food into the trash after a meal. Would you really dig into yesterday’s garbage to make tonight’s meal? Do you dig into old mental garbage to create tomorrow’s experiences? If a thought or belief does not serve you, let it go! There is no written law that says that because you once believed something, you have to continue to believe it forever. Affirm today: The past is over, so it has no power now. The thoughts of this moment create my future. Float on the Oceans of Life Our thoughts are creative. This is the most important law of nature that we need to know. One idle thought doesn't make much difference, but thoughts are like drops of water—they accumulate. As we continue to rethink the same thoughts over a period of time, they become puddles, ponds, lakes, or oceans. If they're positive, we can float on the oceans of life. If they're negative, we can drown in the sea of negativity. What's your normal attitude when you wake up in the morning? Is it one of hope, faith, and love? Then the day will bring you what you need. Sit quietly for a few moments and notice your train of thoughts. Did you really want to have the sort of life that these thoughts will produce? Choose thoughts that nourish you. Affirm today: I express who I am in joyous, positive ways. Gratitudeis a Way of Life I have noticed that the Universe loves gratitude. The more grateful you are, the more goodies you get. When I say “goodies,” I don’t mean only material things. I mean all the people, places, and experiences that make life so wonderfully worth living. You know how great you feel when your life is filled with love and joy and health and creativity, and you get the green lights and the parking places. This is how our lives are meant to be lived. The Universe is a generous, abundant giver, and it likes to be appreciated. When I awaken in the morning, the first thing I do before I even open my eyes is to thank my bed for a good night’s sleep. I am grateful for the warmth and comfort it has given me. From that beginning, it is easy to think of many, many more things I am grateful for. By the time I have gotten out of bed, I have probably expressed gratitude for 80 or 100 different people, places, things, and experiences in my life. This is a great way to start the day. Affirm today: I love every minute of every day and I expand my heart to include everyone. Always. This message has been around for a long time. Remember the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This rule was never created to produce guilt. It’s a law of nature that says that how we treat others is exactly how we’ll be treated. This also applies to our thoughts. If we judge and criticize—even in thought—then we will be judged and criticized. If we love and accept ourselves and others unconditionally, then we’ll attract people into our lives who will give us the same unconditional love and acceptance. Thoughts of hate attract thoughts and actions of hate. Thoughts of jealousy attract lack and loss in our lives. On the other hand, thoughts of forgiveness attract healing and prosperity. Thoughts of love bring not only love in our lives, but more goodness than we can imagine. Affirm today: I choose thoughts that make me feel happy and loved. This enriches everything I do today. "Creating a world where it's safe to love each other..."
